Introduction to Companies

Companies or DimCompany as it's called when Power BI connects to the Aimplan data is one of the Aimplan 'system dimensions'. I.e. all data stored from within the Planning and Reporting Visual will be stored connected to a company.

The Companies dimension can be used to facilitate company consolidations, but it is optional. To activate it, navigate to Experimental Features and toggle on Instance Toggles > Companies.

Adding and editing companies

Click the 'Edit' button above the company table to start editing companies.

  • Click the 'Add' button to create a new empty row
  • Enter data into the following fields:
  • Key - the key or code used to uniquely identify a company. This can be a natural key or a surrogate key. This key should match how the Id/Key you use in your Power BI models to identify a company. This key field can not be changed after save.
  • Name - the name of the company. Can later be changed if needed
  • Code - similar to Key, but is the visible natural Id that end-users might recognize when describing a company
  • Currency - the company base currency. I.e. if you have companies in different countries, this field defines the base home currency of each company
  • Archived - if you want to archive and no longer use a specific company, you change 'archived' to Yes. This implies that it will be flagged as no longer valid to store new records, and it will not by default be visable in this list of companies. To show all companies, including the archived companies you flip the 'Show All Companies' switch at the top-right of the screen.
